Angelina Jolie Gives Emotional Speech at U.S. Press For Domestic Violence Law
During a recent visit to Washington, DC, Angelina Jolie expressed her support for the Senate’s bipartisan introduction of the Violence Against Women Reauthorisation Act, which expired 3 years ago. Zahara Jolie, Angelina Jolie’s daughter, accompanied her at the session where the actor and humanitarian advocate got emotional.

Angelina Jolie’s powerful speech on domestic abuse against women
Angelina Jolie, 46, addressed the effects of domestic violence on children while urging the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act, according to Daily Mail. Her speech on Capitol Hill was emotional as she addressed the trauma effects of abuse and put the health, safety, and healing of children at the center of how the legal and medical systems handled domestic violence. Even mentioned that these were national and global issues affecting children and families.
She stated, “We have to understand the trauma effects of abuse and put the health, safety, and healing of children at the center of how our legal and medical systems approach domestic violence. These are national and global issues for children’s and families’ health and wellbeing.”
Even Jolie mentioned that many people struggle to leave abusive situations because they’ve been made to feel worthless, and the actor stressed that Congress is still silent on the issue. “Many people struggle to leave abusive situations because they feel worthless. Angelina Jolie accompanied her daughter, Zahara, to Capitol Hill and shared a picture of the two of them. In the picture, both can be seen preparing for the big day together. She mentioned in the caption that they were headed toward the Senate’s introduction of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act. Likewise, she expressed her gratitude for having joined dedicated advocates and legislators and that she was glad to be sharing in the advocacy with Zahara. In the caption, it read, “As we prepare to introduce the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act in the Senate, I’m grateful to have the opportunity to work with dedicated advocates and legislators. I’m also glad to have Zahara’s presence calm my nerves before today’s press conference.” (sic)
