Russian Fugitive Accused of Cyber Crimes Arreted in Phuket
PHUKET – A Russian fugitive has been arrested in Phuket after fleeing charges related to illegal financial transactions in his home country to Thailand four years ago.
After facing an arrest warrant in Russia, Alexey Dolzhenkov, 36, fled to Thailand in 2015 before he was arrested in Phuket, said Immigration Bureau chief Pol Lt-General Surachet Hakpan in a press briefing.
Dolzhenkov was a prime suspect leading a crime syndicate in committing forgery, illegal transaction and tax evasion causing damage of 485 million rubles ($7.3 Million) in Russia, he said.
Since receiving Interpol notice, Thai police had tracked the man traveling and found him in Phuket, Pol Lt-General Surachet told TNA.
His Thai visa has been revoked pending extradition.
Pol Lt-General Surachet Hakpan said there were over 70 foreign nationals listed on Interpol notice believed to be in Thailand.
“Thai police will search and arrest them all,” he said.
