Record Haul of 11.6 Million Speed Pills Trafficked from Chiang Rai, Seized in Central Thailand
SING BURI – A record single haul of 11.6 million tablets of methamphetamine was seized from a trafficking 10-wheel truck in central Thailand on Friday, a police general said.
The 11.6 million speed pills alongside 700 kg of crystal meth had been hidden under fresh corn on board the 10-wheel truck which was stopped by police on a road in Sing Buri province, about 180 km north of Bangkok, according to Deputy National Police Commissioner General Pol. Gen. Chalermkiat Srivorakhan.
The police managed to have the corn dumped from the 10-wheel truck onto the ground to find 59 bags containing 11.6 million speed pills and 28 bags of 700-kg crystal meth, Pol. Gen. Chalermkiat said.
The drugs had been trafficked from Chiang Rai province in northern Thailand since Tuesday with a pickup truck leading the drug-laden 10-wheel truck along the way, the deputy police chief said.
The record single haul of drugs, which might have sold for 770 million baht (about 22.6 million U.S. dollars) in blackmarket, had been destined for delivery somewhere on Bangkok’s northern outskirts, Pol. Gen. Chalermkiat said.
Two males and one female were arrested on charges of trafficking the drugs. The drug trafficking suspects were identified as Charan Kamnond, 43, who drove the 10-wheel truck and was accompanied by his wife, Srikham Pinta, 38, and Chan Sawaddi, 47, who led the way driving the pickup truck.
