Police Officer and Wife Arrested for Dealing Crystal Meth
A police officer and his wife have been arrested on charges of selling illegal drugs after crystal meth was seized from their home in southern Thailand’s Surat Thani province.
Police Senior Sgt Maj Pairat Yotmek, 52, was dismissed from the force pending a fact-finding investigation into his alleged involvement in the drug trade.
A Surat Thani police spokesperson said Pol Snr Sgt Maj Pairat and his wife Ms. Chalermporn Sukhumthong, 44, were at their home on Thursday.
Border Patrol Police and local officials seized from the house were 900 grams of crystal meth and three guns.
The couple has been charged with colluding to possess illegal drugs with intent to sell. They were also charged with possessing firearms without proper registration.
Police Seize US$1.8Million Worth of Drugs and Assets
Police in Northern Thailand arrested 70 suspects and seized 14 guns and 700,000 meth pills, during five days of anti-drug raids. Those arrested included a married couple in Chiang Mai suspected of being associated with a major drug trafficking syndicate.
Pol Lt Gen Piya Tawichai, the Commissioner of Northern Thailand’s Provincial Police Region 5, said police impounded assets worth more than 60 million baht (US$1.8million) from drug trafficking networks in Nan, Phayao, and Chiang Rai provinces during the raids.
The anti-drug raids were conducted from Nov 8-13th, with 70 suspects arrested and 700,000 meth pills, 14 illegal firearms seized.
Authorities said a married couple arrested were members of a large drug trafficking syndicate. They were identified as Mrs. Mai Sae Ja from Chiang Mai and her husband Jaimoo. They were reportedly apprehended at two different locations, Pol Lt Gen Piya Tawichai said.
