CHONBURI – Police are searching for a suspect accused of slashing an 18-year-old vocational student and stealing his motorcycle before fleeing toward Rayong. Investigators at Huai Yai Police Station were notified of a violent assault and robbery in Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. They responded with rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation (Pattaya).
At the scene, the student was found lying in a pool of blood on a dirt area near the roadside. He was identified as Siraphat Ajthaisong, 18, a third-year vocational student at a technology school in Bang Lamung.
Rescuers said he suffered a deep slash wound to the right side of his neck, another stab wound under the chin, and a cut near his right ear. They provided first aid to control bleeding and rushed him to Pattaya Patmakhun Hospital.
Siraphat told police he was riding his black Honda Wave 125 motorcycle back home to pick up supplies and prepare for an exam. He said the attack started after he encountered a Thai man who asked to ride along.
Suspect Suddenly Attacked Student
According to Siraphat, the man approached near a gas station in Khao Mai Kaew, about 2 kilometers from where the assault happened. The suspect waved him down, asked where he was going, and then said he was headed to the same area and requested a lift. Siraphat agreed and let him ride on the back.
After entering the small road near Siraphat’s home, the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and slashed Siraphat’s neck. Siraphat said he stopped the motorcycle, then the suspect kicked him and stabbed him several times, hitting him under the chin and near the ear.
Siraphat also said the suspect grabbed at his clothing, tearing off a layer as he tried to escape.
Siraphat fought back and ran about 300 meters to his home to seek help. He collapsed near the entrance, where neighbors came to assist. The suspect then fled with Siraphat’s motorcycle.
Siraphat’s mother, Rattikarn Ajthaisong, 40, said her son had stayed overnight at a friend’s home the day after an exam. Early the next morning, he returned to pick up items for another exam.
She said he was attacked as he was about to turn into the road leading to their home. She asked the police to track down the suspect and bring him to justice quickly.
Police Recover Knife, Check CCTV Footage
Investigators inspected the area and recovered a kitchen knife, estimated to have a 10 to 12-centimeter blade. Police said it was found about 300 meters from where the injured student was discovered, and it was kept as evidence.
Chonburi Provincial Police Deputy Commander Col. Wasurach Chaitheerapat said detectives are working to identify and locate the suspect. He noted that the immediate area where the assault happened did not have CCTV coverage, which he searched harder for.
Later, reporters obtained nearby CCTV footage that appears to show the sequence after the attack. One camera captured the victim running toward his home before collapsing near the entrance.
Another camera recorded the suspect riding the stolen motorcycle along Highway 331 (Sattahip to Chachoengsao). Additional footage from a gas station near a race track showed the suspect entering the station and then leaving, heading in the direction of Rayong.
Police say the investigation is ongoing as officers gather information, review available video, and continue the manhunt.
