Police Discover Dismembered Body Parts in 2 Bangkok Canal
Police in Bangkok have opened a murder investigation after the gruesome discovery of dismembered body parts in two city canals.
Dismembered human body parts, including a woman’s head, were discovered in Klong Bangkok Noi and Klong Bangkok Yai.
According to the Metropolitan Police Bureau, the dismembered body parts belong to the same person. They suspect the victim was a woman since jewellery, long hair, painted nails, and braces were found on the body parts.
Despite this, police had not ruled out that those dismembered parts might have belonged to a transgender person.
According to the city police chief, neither the age nor nationality of the suspect have yet been determined. There were however tattoos on the back of the victim’s body that suggested the person might be Thai.
The dismembered body parts were scattered around the canals, which led investigators to believe that the death was the result of murder.
It is likely that the body parts were dumped into the Chao Phraya, then washed into Klong Bangkok Noi and Klong Bangkok Yai by the current.
Police gathering evidence
Investigators were trying to gather evidence and were examining CCTV footage in the areas where the body parts were found.
According to the Ruam Katanyu Foundation, the headless upper torso and the head were found near the Buppharam police station. The left leg was located near Wat Hongrattanaram pier in an area under the jurisdiction of Buppharam police station. The left leg was found near Wat Noi Nai pier in an area under the jurisdiction of Taling Chan police station.
The Bangkok Post reported that the headless torso was first discovered floating under the Arun Amarin bridge in the Bangkok Noi area around noon.
Later, the victim’s head was found floating near Ansorissunnah Royal Mosque in Bangkok Noi.
Upon placing the head on the torso, the medical examiner determined the throat of the victim had been slashed with a sharp object like a large hunting knife or machete.
