Police Arrest Father Transporting Drugs with 9-Year-Old Daughter

Police in western Thailand have arrested a married after 10 kilos of crystal meth was found in their vehicle, in which their 9-year-old daughter was also a passenger. On Friday, the police announced the arrest of Sombat Ouanseng, 50, and Chayaphan Srisuksai, 45.

The two were travelling with their 9-year-old daughter in an old Isuzu Trooper with Bangkok license plates.

According to police, Ms Chayaphan works for the Wang Ka Tambon administration in Sangkhla Buri district, in Kanchanaburi province.

They were apprehended after another couple, Manam Saiha and Wanpen Srinuanchan was arrested earlier this year with 32,000 meth pills in Muang District of Kanchanaburi.

Mr Sombat was accused of being involved in the drug trade based on their evidence. The police watched his movements.

On Thursday morning, police followed Mr Sombat’s vehicle as he left his Sangkhla Buri home. At approximately 11:30 am, he was stopped at a checkpoint in Thong Pha Phum district.

Officers followed him and searched the vehicle in which his wife Ms Chayaphan and their daughter, aged 9, were also riding in. Police found 14 packages containing crystal meth, totalling 10 kilograms.

Mr Sombat was then escorted back to his home in the Tambon Nong Lu district of Sangkhla Buri. According to police nothing illegal was found at his house. He was then taken to Thong Pha Phum police station for further questioning.

A urine test conducted on Mr Sombat and his wife found no indication of drug use. A charge of conspiracy to possess illegal drugs was filed against them.

Mr Sombat, when questioned, allegedly confessed to all charges, but claimed he acted alone, and that his wife was not involved.

In his statement to police, he indicated he had taken his wife and daughter to the doctor earlier that day and was then headed to Muang district with the drugs.

He allegedly claimed it was his seventh delivery. He allegedly received payments between 30 and 40 thousand baht per delivery. According to police, he told them he had provided meth pills monthly to a man in the Chaiya district of Surat Thani province.

His wife denied all charges against her. Earlier this year, she began her duties as a district official of the Wang Ka tambon administration organization in Sangkhla Buri district. She and her family lived in Phra Chedi Sam-Ong (Three Pagodas) village in Sangkhla Buri district.

The police also seized four mobile phones discovered in their vehicle as evidence.

Upon arresting the couple, the arresting team handed them over to the Thong Pha Phum police. Investigations were ongoing.
