Police Recover Handguns Linked to the Killing of Indian Gangster

Phuket Police on the resort island of Phuket have recovered 2 handguns believed to have been used in last week’s murder of an Indian gangster, Jimi Singh Sandhu. They were recovered from the sea off a beach close to the murder scene.

According to a police spokesperson, the two suspected hitmen allegedly fled Thailand on Sunday.

Thailand’s National police chief Pol Gen Suwat Jangyodsuk arrived in Phuket on Thursday to attend a meeting aimed at wrapping up the case.

Sandhu, aka Mandeep Singh, was executed in front of his rented villa on Rawai Beach in Phuket, Thailand last Friday evening. His bullet-ridden body was discovered the next morning.

A member of a criminal gang, he was involved in illegal drug cases and other crimes, including several assaults and illegal possession of firearms. In 2016, his citizenship was revoked and he was deported from Canada.

Pol Lt Gen Amphon Buarapphon, the Regional Police Commissioner of Provincial Police Region 8, as well as other local officials attended the meeting for which all the evidence in the latest case was discussed, including state documents, forensic tests, CCTV footage, and the identities of the suspected gunmen.

Phuket Police Seek Warrants

Phuket Police reported Thursday that two handguns were pulled from the sea at a nearby beach — a CZ 9mm semi-automatic and a Walther 9mm fully-automatic. Both handguns were legally registered in the name of Thai citizens.

The gun owners will be summoned to answer questions about their involvement in the case. According to police, both gunmen were Canadians who left Thailand on Sunday.

Pol Col Kissana Phathanacharoen, the deputy police spokesman, said that investigators are waiting for forensic results and gathering more evidence before they seek arrest warrants for the two Canadians and their accomplices.

Pol Col Kissanasaid also said that police are working with the Canadian RCMP with regards to the gunmen.

Meanwhile, an unnamed 33-year-old Russian man is in Phuket police custody for questioning after he was seen setting up a GPS system on the dead gangsters’ car at a house near the Rawai resort on Thursday.

A police insider told CTN News that an unspecified amount of ketamine was also discovered at the same property.
