Passenger Van Smashes into Truck Stopped at a Traffic Light, Injuring 12 Occupants in Central Thailand
PRACHIN BURI – A passenger van rammed into the rear of a lorry in central Thailand early Sunday, injuring 12 Cambodian migrant workers and the driver, police said.
The accident occurred at about 5.30am at an intersection near Ban Krok Sombun n Si Maha Phot district in Prachin Buri on Sunday.
The van was heading for Sa Kaeo with 12 Cambodian workers on board, police said. The workers were believed to be heading for Aranyaprathet district in Sa Kaeo province on the border with Cambodia to get their visas extended.
At the intersection, the van rammed into the rear of a lorry, causing severe damage.
The 12 Cambodians and Jakkrit Ketphet, 33, the Thai driver, were injured. They were admitted to Si Maha Phot Hospital for treatment.
Surapol Suwankut, 56, the lorry driver, said he stepped on the brake several times on seeing the red light, but the van crashed into his vehicle from behind.
Police are investigating the incident and said if the driver was at fault he would be charged with reckless driving which carries a Bt400 fine and his license would be suspended.
