Missing Irish Tourist Francis O’Brien Back with Family
PHUKET – Irishman Francis O’Brien who went missing in Thailand twice after suffering memory loss has been reunited with his family.
O’Brien from Louth had been holidaying in Thailand over Christmas and was due to leave on January 10th, however, he was found wandering the streets of the Thalang district last Saturday in a disorientated state.
Locals took him to the police station and he told officers he was on holidays but he couldn’t say why or how he was there.
Police were able to identify Mr O’Brien by his drivers licence but after failing to find any evidence of injury they let him go at his own request.
His family once again were unable to get in touch with him after police let him go, he was later found at Phuket International Airport and on Wednesday he was set to fly home.
His daughter Jennifer O’Brien said: “I knew he went on holiday and I had regular contact with him, but then he didn’t call for three weeks.
“I was really worried. My sister, Nicola, lives in Rishton and she’s pregnant and was really worried too. That they have found him is brilliant news.
“He’s a lovely dad, but he enjoys himself a bit too much, and a lot of people have been worried about him. He obviously enjoyed his holiday. I can’t wait to hear the stories. He always has a story to tell.”
It is understood he was flying to Kuala Lumpa before heading home a few days later.
