On Wednesday, a 39-year-old man shot and killed his wife, two daughters, and then himself in Rattaphum district of Songkhla province in Southern Thailand. One daughter survived the shooting and critical condition in hospital.
According to police, the incident happened about 5.09 p.m. at a residence in Khao Rak Kiat. Police raced to Moo 12 village of tambon Kamphaeng Phet to investigate.
According to the police forensic officers, 39-year-old Mr. Prateep Sakaran was the man who shot his wife, his two daughters, and finally himself. Prateep had gone to pick up his two kids, Mona, 9, and Nada, 11, on Wednesday afternoon from Ban Kamphaengphet School.
At around the same moment, his wife, Phannee Sakaran, a 40-year-old dentist assistant at Rattaphum Hospital, returned home on a motorcycle.Prateep and Phannee allegedly got into a furious argument. Prateep pulled out a 9mm revolver and fatally shot Phannee in the head during the dispute.
He then shot his two daughters in the head one after the other, before shooting himself.
Phannee and Mona had died from their injuries by the time the officers arrived. Prateep and Nada were still alive, but critically injured. Both were taken to the hospital, where Prateep died as a result of his serious head injury. Nada’s condition remained critical.
At the scene, a 9mm gun was discovered with four bullets discharged and four more in the magazine. Also discovered were three expended cartridges. According to family members and neighbors, Prateep has a history of getting arrested for alleged narcotics trafficking, a case that is still pending in court.
Despite his release on bail, he was compelled to wear an electronic monitoring (EM) ankle bracelet. They claimed that Prateep’s wife had requested a divorce, but he refused. Their ongoing squabbles resulted in the shooting event.
