Major Drug Dealer “The Boss” Arrested on Koh Samui Island

BANGKOK – Koh Samui Police have taken down to be a major drug dealer  “the boss”, after being hunted for over a year. Mr. Sompong Ruangsri was arrested Friday on charges of selling crystal meth on Koh Samui Island.

Surat Thani Governor Witchawut Jinto and Koh Samui Pol Maj-Gen. Apichart Boonsriroj announced on Sunday.

Pol Maj-Gen. Apichart said 2 cars, gold necklaces, 2 luxury wristwatches and 10 bank accounts have been seized.

The arrest of Mr Sompong followed two crackdowns on drugs on the resort island last year. The investigators pointed to  a man known as “the boss” a key figure in the network.

Investigators later determined “the boss” was 63 year-old Sompong  Ruangsri.  Authorities said he operated rental van service which they believe was a cover for his drug business

The authorities did not give further details on the suspect’s arrest on Koh Samui, Thai media reported.

Pol Maj Gen Apichart said Mr Sompong had been convicted on heroin charges and assets worth bt10 million were seized in 2002. After being released from jail in 2011, the man set up a new drug network on Koh Samui.

The Surat Thani police chief suspected he had connections with influential figures and officials. A Koh Samui court approved an arrest earlier this year.

Surat Thani Governor Witchuwut Jinto said any officials found to have links with the gang will face stern action.

Russian Expat and Dog Found Dead Inside his Koh Samui Home

On the same day Russian Viacheslav Kolbunov and his pet dog were found dead in his Koh Samui home. He was found lying dead on a bed in a bedroom house police arrived on Friday night.

Vyacheslav had a blanket covering his body and a dead pit pull was found near a cage inside the room.

Koh Samui Police believe the Russian and his dog had been dead for between several days.

Police and forensic officers who conducted further investigations on Saturday found no traces of a struggle. Drug paraphernalia, a coffee cup and a glass containing brown liquid were found.

Mr.Vyacheslav body has be sent to forensic experts for a postmortem examination. The carcass of the dog would be examined by livestock officials.
