BANGKOK – A 46-year-old Japanese expat, who goes by the online pseudonym “Koki Aki,”has called attention to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport with a social media rant on all its many shortcomings.

According to Coconuts Bangkok, Koki Aki, blasted Thailand’s major travel hub for its long immigration lines and shady taxi arrangements.

Koki Aki, complained about a number of perceived customer-service problems at Suvarnabhumi, particularly its long immigration lines and shady taxi’s after being charged a 700-baht flat fare to Bangkok’s Saphan Khwai area by a driver who refused to use the meter. The normal fare is about 350 baht, he said.

The post was shared more than 15,500 times and picked up by numerous media outlets. On Monday night, airport authorities responded by suspending driver Chaiyan Charoensopha indefinitely from working there. The Airports of Thailand said in a statement that, although Koki did not file a formal complaint, Mr Chaiyan broke regulations by not using the meter.

In a similar article Casey Hynes from the Asian Corrispondant reported that Aki says his complaints are shared by foreigners and locals alike, that all are victimized by unfair taxi drivers. Certainly anyone who has traveled through Suvarnabhumi knows it can be a trying experience when making your way through the crowds, out to the long taxi line, only to have to haggle for a fair price from the driver.
