BANGKOK – Commonwealth Games silver medallist Stephanie Inglis who is in a coma after a motorcycle accident in Vietnam has been flown to a Bangkok for treatment.
Stephanie Inglis remains in a coma after suffered head injuries in Ha Long, Vietnam, on Tuesday May 12 when her skirt caught in a wheel of a motorcycle taxi taking her to work teaching English, pulling her off the bike.
She has since developed pneumonia and a decision was made to fly her to Bangkok where there is a hospital equipped to deal with the infection and the coma.
Following the accident on 10 May, an appeal to raise money to cover the cost of her care has so far raised more than £230,000.
In a post on the “Save Steph†social media page, a friend wrote yesterday: “After a traumatic night of terrible weather and technical issues with planes, Stephanie has at this moment commenced her journey to Bangkok.
“We are all excited and relieved to be able to get her to this point, I will update everyone later as soon as I know she is safe and settled in her new home and another step closer to recovering.â€
Her parents have said they are happy with the care she is now receiving, but even with that care the end outcome is still unknown.
Her parents urged people to continue donating, saying the cost of flying Ms Inglis home would be more than £120,000.
Stephanie Inglis won her silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
