PHUKET – Pol Lt Peerasit Noophayak, a deputy investigation chief at Choeng Thalay police station in Phuket has told reporters that the body of a foreign man was found dead on Surin beach in Thalang district of the island on Saturday morning.

The unidentified foreign tourist in his late 50s was found floating face-down near the beach in tambon Choeng Thalay, said Pol Lt Peerasit Noophayak, said.

According to the Phuket News, two tourists jogging along the beach spotted the body floating face down in the water. They pulled the body to shore and alerted a local resident to call the police.

There were no traces of a struggle or injuries on the body, police searched for Identification but only found 90 baht in his pocket.

A Police forensic examiner said he believed the foreign man died at least 6-8 hours before his body was discovered.

“He was 180-185cm tall. He was wearing grey T-shirt, and long grey jeans. He was barefoot, and had a bandage on the top of his left foot.”

Police have sent his body to Phuket’s Thalang Hospital for a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of his death.

Authorities believed he might have fainted and drowned while taking a walk alone along the beach on Friday. They are check hotels in the area to see whether any foreign guest was missing.
