Chiangrai Times – An Australian man is fighting for his life in a Thai hospital after a motorcycle accident. Only a month after completing an epic charity walk around Australia, North Avoca’s Andrew Cadigan is now fighting for his life in a ChiangMai hospital.

Mr Cadigan, 31, was holidaying in Chiang Mai when he was involved in a motorcycle accident on Saturday that left him unconscious with severe head injuries and a broken leg.

His father Neil travelled to Thailand to be by his son’s side and has been posting updates from Mr Cadigan’s Facebook page ever since.

“I will post updates when I can from his log-in but he will be here for some time. Please pray for him.” He said there was still no change in Mr Cadigan’s condition on Tuesday.

“It’s hard here with the language barrier. We’re doing all we possibly can. He keeps fighting. We have to stay strong because he is the toughest bloke any of us have met.”

Friends and family have flooded Mr Cadigan’s Facebook page with hundreds of messages of support, wishing him a speedy recovery from the accident.

“Hang in there Cad you are capable of anything when you put your mind to it,” Jamie Rea said.

Walkabout raised cash in mate’s memory

ANDREW Cadigan spent 18 months walking 15,000km around Australia with a pram full of supplies.

He found the motivation for the trek when a mate, Chris Simpson, of Springfield, died at 24 of complications related to myelodysplasia (MDS), a pre-leukaemic disorder, two years ago.

Mr Cadigan quit his job as a carpenter, sold his house to fund the trip and left for an experience he could not forecast would be so eventful, testing, diverse but rewarding in that he raised a substantial amount of

money and honoured the life of his mate Simmo.

Mr Cadigan left Sydney on December 27, 2010, to embark on his  journey. He has walked  across the nation to Perth via  Tasmania, the coastline of the Bass Strait and the Nullarbor, then to Darwin via Broome

and the Kimberley, then through to Townsville and south down the east coast.

The journey finished in Sydney on Thursday, June 14. Mr Cadigan raised $60,000 for the Cancer Council and Leukaemia Foundation through his website. bfDetails: Ozonfoot.com
