PHUKET – Patong Police Deputy Superintendent Akanit Danpitaksat has reported that a 41-year-old American National has fallen to his death from the 17th floor of a hotel on Patong beach in Phuket.

The 41-year-old American, whose name was being withheld pending notification of relatives, fell from the Royal Paradise Patong hotel at 4.35am on Saturday.

Police and rescue workers rushed to the scene and found the body of the American national in cream-colored shorts, lying face-up outside the ground floor of the hotel. The shirtless man suffered broken ribs with internal injuries.

Police Deputy Superintendent Akanit Danpitaksat said the American tourist had been staying in a room on the 17th floor and there were no signs of a struggle inside the room. Many cigarette butts were found on the balcony.

A police investigation showed that the man had checked into the hotel alone several days ago.

Police are contacting the US embassy so they can notify his family while they investigate what happened to him.
