KANCHANABURI – Police in Kanchanaburi have reported that Dutch National Hieronymus Cornelis Maria Boumans, 52 was killed after being run over by a moving tourist train in Sai Yok district on Wednesday.

According to the Bangkok Post the incident occurred at Ban Pu Pong station in Moo 5 village of tambon Tha Sao at about 4pm.

Pol Lt Kasarn Para, a duty officer at Sai Yok police station, said Boumans and his family left Nam Tok (waterfall) station for Thonburi station in Bangkok at about 3.30pm.

As the train was pulling away from Ban Pu Pong station, Boumans was standing on a carriage ladder and fell while his right hand was still holding on to the steel handrail. He was thrown into a gap between the fourth and fifth carriages, pulled onto the track and crushed to death beneath the train.

It was the third death involving the Thonburi-Nam Tok route train in about a month.

On Nov 26, a Greek diplomat Aristea Liapi was killed when she fell from a train and her head was crushed on a rail track in Sai Yok district. A Thai woman was killed early this month after being hit by the tourist train from Bangkok to Sai Yok waterfall while talking on her mobile phone at the time she was crossing over the track.
