450Kg of Crystal Meth Discovered after Driver Crashes Transport Truck

BANGKOK – Police have seized a shipment of crystal meth after the truck transporting the drug crashed into a road island. 450 kilograms of crystal meth or “ice” in the 10-wheel truck after it crashed.

Phetchaburi Police said the driver, Adinan Laeha, 45, and his 18-year-old son were arrested after the drugs were found. The two suffered slight injuries, the Nation reported.

The impact of the crash caused 26 packets containing crystal meth to fall from the back of the truck onto the road. Some bags broke open, revealing the crystal meth inside.

Police checked the back of the truck and found that the truck was transporting a full load of animal feed in white sacks. Police found 15 sacks among the animal feed containing crystal meth.

Precursor for Crystal Meth and 32 Million Meth Pills Seized

Meanwhile, the Office of the Narcotics Control Board, said the seizures were made in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai.

Seized in the seven cases were 32,390,000 meth pills and 25.35 tons of hydrochloric acid. A precursor, sufficient for the production of up to 2.5 trillion meth pills or 50 tons of crystal meth.

The seizures were part of the ongoing operations to curb drug trafficking from the Golden Triangle into Thailand.

Narcotics and precursors have also been seized in five other countries; — Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.

Under the Safe Mekong Drug Control Joint Operation Plan, an operation to destroy both sources of drugs and storage areas. The safe Mekong joint operation began in 2013, to tackle trafficking of drugs in the Mekong sub-region.

Thailand has made most of the seizures of the past year, about 80 tonnes. Seizures of crystal meth have amounted to about 18 tonnes. Most of the seizures have taken place in northern Thailand.

To put it into context, the amount seized by Thailand last year exceeded the total amount seized in ASEAN 10 years ago by 9 times.
