42 year-old Dutchman Killed after Ramming into the Rear of an Oil Tanker in Western Thailand
KANCHANABURI – The Royal Thai Police in western Thailand have reported that a 42 year-old Dutch tourist has been killed after he rammed into the back of an oil tanker with his Toyota Camry.
Pol Maj Vorapong Chaophae, deputy investigation chief at Tha Muang police station in Kanchanaburi Province said that the accident took place at approximately 3am,
When officers and rescue personnel arrived at the accident scene they found a Toyota Camry with its front section badly damaged with pieces of broken car parts scattered over the road and the occupant (42 year-old Dutch tourist) who neck had been broken by the sudden impact.
The driver was later identified as 42 year-old Roi Fanh Veeland, police said Veeland entered Thailand on April 9 and had rented a house in Tambon Tha Lor in Tha Muang.
Police said the traffic lights at the intersection were in the warning flashing orange mode. The Dutchman was apparently driving at a fast speed and did not notice the rear of the truck.
Police charged Surat Mathiang, 39, the driver of the lorry, with reckless driving causing death.
The body of Veeland was sent to Somdej Phrasangkharach 19 Hospital in Kanchanaburi province pending the notification of the embassy.
