PATHUM THANI – Two Chinese women claimed they were robbed by a taxi driver and then dumped on a roadside just northeastern metro Bangkok.

Pol Lt Col Panya Lekdee, an investigator of Lat Lum Kaew district police, said security guards helped the two women file a complaint at about 2.30pm on Tuesday, the Khaosod News reported.

Xi Yi Cheng, 26, and Ko Han, 27 told police that they hailed a taxi yesterday morning to take them from the Mor Chit BTS train station to the Nakornchai Air bus terminal in Chatuchak district to catch a Chiang Mai-bound bus.

After about 15 minutes, the driver pulled a gun and forced them to bend head down throughout the ride.

At a location n Lat Lum Kaew district, the driver forced them at gunpoint to handover their belongings, the women said. Lost were two passports, About 10,000 baht in Thai and Chinese currency, two Apple iPhones and two suitcases.

They said the driver then told them to get out of the car and drove off.

The women walked to SCL Co located nearby, where security guards took them to the police station. They were taken to the Chinese embassy after filing the complaint.

Police gathered information from a taxi centre and from security cameras and later arrested Sirichai Srisuk, 29, at around 1:30am early on Wednesday, recovering most of the tourists’ stolen items.

Srichai reportedly took the tourists’ bags, three mobile phones, 23,000 baht and travel documents. All but the passports have been recovered.

Sirichai had a prior conviction on drug-related charges for which he spent two years behind bars before being released in early 2015, it said.
