Three Myanmar Men Arrested for Sexually Assaulting American Woman in Chiang Mai
CHIANG MAI – Three Myanmar construction workers have been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting an American woman in Chiang Mai’s Doi Saket District.
The arrest occurred on April 27th following a report of an American woman being sexually assault at Ban Pa Sao, San Pu Loei, Doi Saket.
According to CityNews the victim and her male friend rented a motorcycle and while traveling to Doi Saket, stopped at a local shop owned by their mutual friend for the night. They were having drinks when three men joined the circle.
The men were later identified as Dum, 22, Dang, 22, and Noi, 37, all Myanmar nationals.
At around 10pm, the victim went to urinate in the bushes on the side of the road about 10 metres away from the shop, when the assault occurred. All three men allegedly took turns in raping the young American woman.
After a report was made to police, the three men were identified and arrested. The three suspects told police that it was consensual sex.
They have been charged with gang rape, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a 30,000 baht to 40,000 baht fine. The men were denied bail.
Police are now waiting for a medical examination before pursuing further prosecution.
