Taiwanese Nationals Busted at Suvarnabhumi Airport, Smuggling 12 Kg of Crystal Meth to New Zealand

BANGKOK – Two Taiwanese Nationals, Liao Ping Hsiang, 22, and Huang Jyun Jie, 21, have been arrested at Suvarnabhumi airport and charged with attempting to smuggle 12kgs of crystal methamphetamine, or ya ice, to New Zealand.

Narcotics Suppression Bureau commander Rewat Klinkesorn said anti-narcotics and immigration police apprehended Liao Ping Hsiang, 22, and Huang Jyun Jie, 21, at Suvarnabhumi Airport on Tuesday evening as they were preparing to leave for Auckland New Zealand.

Eight kilograms of ya ice ( Methamphetamine’s) was discovered in Mr Huang’s suitcase while the rest was in Mr Liao’s suitcase, Pol Lt Gen Rewat said.

The arrests were made after a tip-off that members of an international drug trafficking gang would try to smuggle drugs from Suvarnabhumi airport to Auckland.

The Taiwanese suspects, who were on their first trip to Thailand, refused to talk to police after their arrest.

Police believed there are other Thai and foreign nationals involved in the trafficking. They were able to identify individuals who gave the drugs to the Taiwanese men and are trying to locate them, Pol Lt Gen Rewat said
