PATTAYA – At a press briefing, the acting Provincial Police Bureau Region 2 Commissioner Sanit Mahathavorn, announced that Fernando Maunel Navaro, 56, had been arrested with a data recorder, 109 recorded electronic cards and 1,000 unrecorded cards. The police pressed charges against the Spanish national for making false electronic cards and possessing devices or materials for making fake cards to use or retrieve data from genuine cards. He may face a jail sentence of 1-5 years and a fine of 20,000-100,000 baht, or both.

The alleged criminal entered the Kingdom on July 18th through Sa Kaew Province and then used fake cards to withdraw money from the SCB’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in the Pattaya area. He then sent much of the money to Romania. Eventually, he was arrested by the police at P Mansion. He has however, denied that he had committed a crime. He said he was paid an amount of 15,000 baht by a Romanian friend as money for withdrawal. Police investigations continue into the matter.
