CHIANG MAI – Karl Joseph Kraus a 93 year old Australian man on trial for child sex offenses in Thailand has had his case suspended for medical reasons and looks likely to be released on bail.
Mr Kraus, is accused of abusing four Thai sisters, one as young as five, when the alleged abuse began in Thailand’s northern city of Chiang Mai.
The German-born former railway worker has held an Australian passport for many years and spent substantial time living in Thailand.
His lawyer has argued that he suffers from depression and is also suffering from advanced prostate cancer.
The accused had his bail revoked when he absconded to Myanmar last year.
He will have to repost bail next week before being released for medical treatment that is expected to last a number of months.
