PHETCHABURI – A body of an unidentified man has been found close to where a married British father-of-two disappeared while on holiday in Thailand with his family last month.

Thai PBS reported the human remains were discovered on Wednesday near the town of Cha-Am and police are now conducting an autopsy to identify the person.wood

The spot is close to the Dream Boutiques Hotel where Martin Wood, 48, from Devon, was last seen before vanishing on December 30. The remains were discovered in a wooded area around 300m inland in Phetchaburi province.

Investigators say it appears the man had been dead for around 18 days, though could not give a cause of death.

Wood was known to have medical problems and suffered from alcoholism, according to hotel staff.

A Go Fund Me account set up to raise money for search efforts described him as being in a ‘vulnerable state’ at the time he disappeared.

When he vanished in the third week of a month-long stay at the hotel with his father, Colin, his passport and bank cards were discovered in his room after he vanished.

A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said last week: “Our staff are assisting the family of a British man who has been reported missing in Thailand, and are in contact with the Thai police.”
