Speaking on the anniversary of Darren’s death, dad Gary Taylor said charity Victim Support had offered to pay for flights and hotels for him and wife Linda to travel to Thailand and meet grandson Anfield, named in memory of Liverpool FC supporter Darren.

But Gary said the couple, who had to raise £10,000 to fly Darren’s body back home after his death, have had to put the trip on hold indefinitely because they won’t be able to afford spending money for the trip.

Gary said they had managed to borrow money to pay for passports but have had to call the trip off.

He said: “We had been planning to go in August and Victim Support had been about to book the flights but we had to ask them to put the offer on hold.

“We just don’t haven’t got anyway of raising the money we would need for things like transport and food when we’re out there.

“It was deflating having to ring and tell them we couldn’t go.

“The thought of going had been helping to get us through, particularly this week.”

Gary said baby Anfield, who lives with mum Chantima Yuttaisong, known as Dao, in Thailand, was seven months old.

He said: “We’re desperate to get out there and meet the baby.

“We see pictures of him that Dao sends on Facebook to our daughter Lydean but it is frustrating that we can’t actually see him.

“We really appreciate Victim Support’s help with getting us the flights and the hotels.

“We don’t know when we will be able to go out there.”

Gary said he also wanted to go to Thailand to see some of the places Darren talked about.

He said: “When he came home he would tell us about temples he had been to and things like that.

“We would love to be able to see what he had been talking about and share some of the memories that he had.

“He loved it over there.”

The Thai authorities have charged James Anthony Durnan, 23, thought to be from Liverpool, with Darren’s murder and he is due to stand trial in November this year.
