KOH PHANGAN – It’s almost five years since English tourist Daniel Hall went missing while backpacking in Thailand. He was last seen on Koh Phangan in 2008.

Daniel, was 35 years old in 2008 when he was last seen around midday on February 25, 2008, at a Full Moon after party, in a bar known as “Back Yard Bar”.

British media reported Daniel had a history degree from Birmingham University, England, but had been working in Norwich as a labourer before travelling to Thailand for an extended back packing holiday.

He arrived in Thailand at the end of January 2008 and initially stayed with a friend in Bangkok. He then went to stay at Lam Son bungalows, on Hat Yao Beach on the island Koh Phangan on February 16, 2008. Here he met up with a Spanish friend, the Norfolk Eastern Daily Press reported.

The ‘Back Yard Bar’ is in the south east region of Koh Phangan and is described by the Thailand police report as being in the area of Ban Hua Laem, Village 6 Ban Tai sub district.

Daniel was reportedly seen there by a number of people during Monday morning (up to 30,000 people were at the Full Moon party earlier). The last known contact Daniel had was with two friends who rang him later that day.

Daniel has never been heard from or seen since. His belongings were still at the Lam Son bungalow where he had been staying and it was later established that no money had been withdrawn from his bank account since February 22, 2008.  Daniel’s phone was eventually located.

Despite conducting enquiries and carrying out liaison with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Thai authorities, no further information has been forthcoming.

Friends and family carried out numerous searches and enquiries looking for him, some have even travelled from the UK to the island.

Appeals by Daniel’s university friends using various social network sites including Facebook targeted the back packing community who had been in Thailand and may have visited the island at the relevant times.

This resulted in a photograph being supplied which shows Daniel on the side and two men in the centre, one being a topless man with a goatee beard and shaved head. Officers would like to speak to these two men seen looking towards Daniel in the photograph as they may be potential witnesses to Daniel’s movements on Koh Phangan.  They are thought to be British nationals.

Officers would also be interested in speaking to any of the individuals in the photograph.

Norfolk Police have also been on Crimewatch to try to jog people’s memories.

Senior Investigating officer DCI Guy said: “We are hoping that such high profile coverage will help us to discover more about Daniel’s last known movements and what became of him . Many of the party goers at the Full Moon party would have been British and five years later would now be living and working back in the UK.”

In 2008, Mr Hall was 5ft 10in tall, of average build, with dark cropped brown hair, the Norfolk Eastern Daily Press reported.
