Former Capitol Records Exec Tim Carr Found Murdered in Pattaya Home

Tim Carr was an ex Capitol Records Executive had lived in Thailand for the past eight years

 

PATTAYA – Former Capitol Records executive Tim Carr 57 has been found dead by police in his rented Pattaya City Apartment.

Carr was discovered by police at the Sombat Apartments in Pratamnuk Soi 4 on Wednesday, police in Pattaya City say they suspect he died in suspicious circumstances.

There was also evidence of drug usage after the Colonel spotted a rolled-up 20 Baht note and a plastic card covered in white powder. Large amounts of prescribed medication were also found in the apartment.

Friends on his facebook Memorial page said “Currently his death is under investigation, but there is nothing official, the general consensus is, when a foreigner dies this way in Pattaya, the final report says “suicide”.

The body of a 57 Year old American was found in his South Pattaya rented apartment on Wednesday and Police suspect he died in suspicious circumstances.

According to Police Colonel Suwan, the Pattaya Police Chief, who was the first senior official on-scene at the Sombat Apartments in Pratamnuk Soi 4, and inspected the body of Mr. Timothy Joseph Carr who, according to his Thai Work Permit, was the Managing Director of Punk Media Company which is listed as a publishing company registered at an address in Jomtien Beach.

A long knife wound across his chest was evident and his naked body was on the floor in the apartments study.

Around the room was signs of a disturbance and numerous blood stains. There was also evidence of drug usage after the Colonel spotted a rolled-up 20 Baht note and a plastic card covered in white powder. Large amounts of prescribed medication were also found in the apartment.

Police interviewed the owner and local residents of the apartment complex but haven’t come up with any solid leads to his possible murder.

A post-mortem examination is now underway which will include a toxicology report to confirm the exact cause of death. Local Police are currently unsure if a third-party was involved in the death or if the drug taking may have caused Mr. Carr to fall into a crazed state (Unlikely) which led to his eventual death. The investigation continues and US Embassy Officials have been notified.

Tim Carr was an ex Capitol Records Executive had lived in Thailand for the past eight years and was recently working on a film about a rock band; he also recently worked with Thai rock singer Sek Loso.

He was the cousin of New York Times columnist David Carr, who tweeted “My cousin Tim Carr, writer, maker of scenes, signer of Beasties and Babes in Toyland, dead at 57” along with a link to an obituary and the hashtag “#NoneLikeHim”

Carr’s music career began in his native Minneapolis in the late 1970s, where he produced a local music festival and worked as a music critic for the Minneapolis Tribune and other publications. He moved to New York in the early 1980s and was a familiar figure on the post punk scene, staging events at venues like the Kitchen and Walker Arts Space.

During his A&R career in the 1980s and 1990s, he signed the Beastie Boys to Capitol — leading to their influential run of albums that began with 1989’s Paul’s Boutique — and Megadeth. At Warner he signed Babes in Toyland, Lush and Ash, among others, and worked with David Byrne and Cibo Matto.
