Chinese Tourists Arrested For Stealing Luggage from Suvarnabhumi Airport

BANGKOK – Thailand’s Tourist Police have arrested 2 Chinese Tourists have been arrested at a guesthouse on Khao San Road for allegedly stealing items from travelers at Suvarnabhumi airport.

Worapong Thongpaiboon, chief of Tourist Police Division 1, said on Sunday police captured Chen Dewei and Tang Jinshan, both Chinese nationals, at a guesthouse on Khao San Road on Saturday. They were arrested on theft charges stemming from two separate incidents at Bangkok’s main airport.

The apprehensions followed a complaint filed at Suvarnabhumi on Friday by Vietnamese Nguyen Hoang Son, who said his baggage disappeared from the airport’s fourth floor.

Police and airport security staff used security camera footage to track Mr Chen, 52, leaving the airport with the bag.

Pol Maj Gen Worapong said Mr Chen confessed to the charges.

Police found Mr Tang, 46, in the same room and discovered that his identity matched another man suspected of stealing cash worth €1,000 (35,000 baht) from Leila Burridge, a British traveller, who registered a complaint with police on May 22.

Mr Tang denied the allegation, but police found he had overstayed his visa. He was sent to a detention centre at the Immigration Police Bureau at Suan Phlu.
