Chiang Rai Drugs Suppression Police Seize 48kg of Crystal Meth in Mae Sai District

CHIANG RAI – Provincial Police Region 5 chief Lt-General Montri Sambunnanont has told a media briefing that drug suppression police arrested a drug suspects along with 48kg of crystal methamphetamine or ice and 72kg of ketamine.

Mongkol Pasiphaopong, 39, was then arrested at a resort in Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district, seized 48kg of ice and 72kg of ketamine was found in his room.

Under police questioning Mr. Mongkol said the drugs were smuggled from the Golden Triangle to be distributed in central Thailand and were hidden in thick oolong tea packets to avoid detection.

Meanwhile, Police in Lampang seized 100kg of ice and 75kg of ketamine, after a Nonthaburi couple, Assakorn Boonrit, 29, and wife Waranya Saisoy, 24, were caught in a Mitsubishi Pajero SUV with the drugs hidden in a compartment at a checkpoint in Lampang’s Mae Prik district.
