Canadian Woman Arrested at Bangkok Airport for Luggage Theft

BANGKOK – A 27-year old Canadian woman has been arrested for stealing other people’s luggage at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport.

The arrest followed a police investigation into thefts at the baggage claim counters at Suvarnabhumi airport on Aug 27. Ms Berg was captured on CCTV cameras in the airport’s arrivals terminal taking other passenger’s luggage.
Police then tracked her movements and waited for the couple checked in for their flight to North America before making their move.
Both Ms Berg and her husband has asked for Consular assistance for the Canadian Embassy in Bangkok.
A theft charge carries a fine from 2,000 to 10,000 baht and a jail term from one to five years.
Meanwhile, Police arrested a baggage handler for stealing cash from a South Korean tourists luggage at Suvarnabhumi airport.
Police and airport officials seized four 1,000-baht banknotes from his locker at the airport.
The arrest came after Lee Soyeong, a South Korean passenger, filed a complaint with tourist police at Suvarnabhumi Airport. She told police she had flown on a Jeju Air flight from Inchon to Thailand.
Before boarding the flight, she had placed Thai banknotes totaling 20,000 baht inside her baggage. She took photos of them and the purse she had put in her checked baggage.
