SURAT THANI – Police on the Island of Koh Samui have arrested 41, year-old British National Nicholas Edward after he rammed into a Motors-scooter, killing the Two riders and dragging them and the scooter as sped off.

Police apprehended Edwards after a short chase approximately 2 kilometers from the accident scene and found the wreckage of the motor-scooter underneath his Ford Everest SUV.

The wreckage of the motor-scooter was found wedged beneath the vehicle, Thai media reported on Wednesday.

.

According to the Samui Times Edwards had to be quickly removed from the scene by police for his own safety as a crowd of at least 20 people – including family members of the dead men – gathered and began threatening him.

Witnesses told Samui police that Edwards overtook a van and crashed head-on with a motor-scooter, the impact threw the two men on the bike to the road. Then Edwards sped away.

The victims were identified as Khamnueng Srimaya, 56, and Somchai Sae Jong, 56

Edwards admitted to police that he had been drinking beer and wine since approximately 4 pm that afternoon at the ‘W Resort’ in Maenam, and had then left around 9pm to drive back to his home.

He told police that he knew he had hit ‘something’, but had no idea that it was a motorbike until he eventually stopped and got out of his car to find out what he had hit.

Police initially charged him with reckless driving causing death. He was taken away for a blood test as Police could smell alcohol on his breath.
