.BANGKOK – After almost a week of speculation by the Thai Media, Bangkok’s Metro Police have issued an arrest warrant for a Thai man suspected in the Rape of a 23 year-old Australian woman.

After Thai authorities and extensive Thai media coverage cast doubt on the Australian woman’s claims, police have confirmed the Australian woman “was” sexually assaulted by Eakaburut Ritrakkhaphan, a 32-year-old motorcycle taxi driver.

Eakaburut was captured in CCTV security camera footage picking up the Australian woman from the Khok Wua junction near Khaosan Road before taking her to the abandoned building she earlier claimed he and a friend attacked her the Khaosod Reported.

Police commander Col. Thanawat Taraka said he could not give more details about the suspect because of the ongoing investigation.

Bangkok Police Chief Sanit Mahatavorn said they could now believe she was raped after it was confirmed by the examination results issued by the hospital.

The suspect was said to have just been released from prison two months prior after serving a sentence for sexual assault, Deputy Police Spokesman Kritsana Pattanacharoen said.
