Bangkok Narcotics Suppression Bureau Sacks Police Officer for Allegedly Selling Drugs Via the Postal Service

 

BANGKOK – Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) police last night arrested the deputy inspector in charge of crime suppression and chief of narcotics suppression task force at Suthisarn police station.

Narcotics Suppression Bureau 2 commander Pol Maj Gen Yingyos Thepchamnong said the arrest of Pol Capt. Samphan Jantason followed information from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) that two drug suspects they arrested had confessed that they received drugs from the Pol Capt Samphan for delivery to customers by postal services.

Investigations by (NSB) Narcotics Suppression police found a link between the officer and the two drug suspects. An arrest warrant was later sought from the Criminal Court and the arrest was made last night.

Pol Capt. Samphan denied the drug charge but admitted to knowing the two suspects two years ago when he led a team of police to search an entertainment venue in his area of responsibility.

Police last night also found a bank book with 100,000 baht in it. The officer however claimed the money was derived from his investment in pyramid share with friends and not from drugs.

Deputy police spokesman Pol Col Krisana Pattanacharoen said on Tuesday that Pol Capt Samphan was “dismissed for now” from the force pending further investigation. His superiors at Sutthisan station would also face an inquiry over their supervision of their subordinate.

National police chief Chakthip Chaijinda was aware of the case and ordered decisive action and the arrest of all accomplices because a police officer committing crime was not to be tolerated, the deputy spokesman said.
