KOH SAMUI – An Australian and Chinese tourist have died while swimming off notoriously dangerous Chaweng beach in a popular holiday spot off the Island of Koh Samui.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Apichart said there there ‘no swimming’ signs and red flags in place to warn tourists about the dangers of swimming there.

Colonel Apichart reported the Australian and another Chinese tourist died in separate accidents off Chaweng beach on Koh Samui during high tide, while two other people were injured.

Australia Department of Foreign Affairs said they are seeking official confirmation to confirm reports of the the death.

In September, an elderly French tourist drowned died after being found face down in the water.

Koh Samui is a popular destination for foreign tourists in Thailand, which last year hosted a record-high 29 million visitors.

The popular beach notorious for dangerous rip tides as it looks deceptively calm from the shore but can quickly pull swimmers into deeper waters
