58 Year-old German Tourist Dies from Motorcycle Accident in Phuket Thailand

PHUKET – A 58 year-old German tourist has died at the scene after colliding with a pickup truck traveling down Patong Hill in Phuket, Thailand.

Police reported the accident happened on Phra Baramee Road on the Kathu side of the notoriously dangerous Patong Hill road.

According to The Nation when Police and emergency responders arrived they found the damaged motorbike and the body of 58-year old Michael Erwin, from Germany.

The pickup driver, 25 year-old Mr. Rthit Ketsamut,was waiting for police at the scene.

Police conducted an alcohol breathalyzer test and the results came back negative.

Witnesses told police that the German motorcyclist had tried to overtake another vehicle but instead collided head on with the pickup which was driving in the opposite lane.

Police have checked CCTV and are continuing their investigation.

Meanwhile, Michael Erwin’s body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital and police said they were notifying consular officials at the German Embassy in Bangkok.
