Wildfire in Chiang Rai Prompts Hospital to Evacuate Patients
Officials at Mae Chan Hospital in Mae Chan district in northern Thailand’s Chiang Rai Province are preparing to evacuate staff and patients, despite the fact that a nearby wildfire had been put out on Thursday, according to the Public Health Ministry.
The permanent secretary for public health, Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, stated on Thursday that Mae Chan Hospital has continued to provide services while firemen were able to limit the fire on a nearby mountain, Doi Jorakay.
Due to the thick smog, more air purifiers were put in the inpatient ward, and officials were prepared to transport patients to neighbouring Chiang Rai health facilities in the event of an emergency, he said.
The wildfire was 1.5 miles from the Mae Chan community hospital.
The wildfire began on the mountain on Wednesday night and soon spread across the area’s dry plants and bamboos, according to the Government Public Relations Department.
Initially, some 100 firefighters were dispatched to suppress the blaze, but the mission proved challenging due to the steep terrain.
Throughout Wednesday night, they employed blowers, cutters, and brooms to establish firebreaks. The fire was under control by 6am on Thursday.
PM2.5 readings in Chiang Rai’s Muang district surged to 159 milligrams per cubic meter on Thursday, according to the Pollution Control Department. Thailand’s safe limit is 50 milligrams per cubic meter.
