CHIANG RAI – In a press release Thailand’s Interior Minister General Anupong Paojinda has confirmed that the authorities have prevented and resolved drug trafficking problems in wide-ranging, continual manner.
They have focused on the strengthening of villages and communities with the help of local mechanisms such as village committees and vigilantes to help eliminate drugs. Police have been aided with the appointment of Village ”private eyes” who look out to examine, analyze and categorize drug problems in respective areas while knowledge and realization of the dangers of drugs has been taught locally.
Last year, the interior ministry improved the treatment and rehabilitation process for drug addicts to meet the standards of the Ministry of Public Health and fully provided assistance to them.
Besides, the interior ministry’s personnel have cooperated with police and military officers to search for drugs and set up checkpoints to intercept drug trafficking in all border areas while any government officials allegedly involved in drug trafficking are to be severely punished by law.
