CHIANG RAI – Two Thai men were detained in the border town of Tachileik, in Myanmar and charged with illegal entry. Both are believed to be linked with a drug gang.

Pol Col Ekkorn Bussababodin, head of Chiang Rai’s immigration police, said his office had confirmed the arrests, and that Thai immigration officials had already visited them in Myanmar. The two were identified as Charoenwut Chanaranchaiyaphat and Thinnakorn Nilrata, he said.

They were detained separately while attempting to get through different immigration checkpoints in Tachileik without proper clearance documents, Pol Col Ekkorn said.

Both men may have to serve prison terms in Myanmar before they are deported to Thailand.
