Police Investigate after Athletes Competing at Chiang Rai’s National Games Robbed

CHIANG RAI – Police were called to the 46th National Games in Chiang Rai after 6 smartphones and Bt31,000 in cash was stolen after thieves broke into the dressing room of a football team.

Six football players from Samut Songkram province filed a complaint with Muang Chiang Rai police on Wednesday night that their room at the Thessaban 6 School had been broken into.

They said they returned from a football match to find that their room was ransacked and a Samsung Galaxy Note 9, an iPhone 7, a Samsung Galaxy J7 and three OPPO phones were stolen along with the cash.

Police later checked signals of the stolen mobile phones and found that three of the handsets had been discarded in a field near a hotel in Tambon Wiang of Muang district. They are continuing their investigation.

The Thailand National Games is a national multi-sport event held every two years among athletes from all over Thailand. The Games were regulated by the Organization of the Sport of Thailand (OST) from the first games in Bangkok, Thailand, from the 1967 games until the 1984 games. Since the 1985 games, they have been organized by the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), after the breakup of the Organization of the Sport of Thailand. The games are recognized by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports are described as the largest multi-sport event in Thailand.
