One Billion Baht Drug Seizure

Chiangrai Times – Thai Soldier soldiers of the Pha Muang Force and narcotics suppression officials on Wednesday night seized illegal drugs with an estimated street value of more than one billion baht near a checkpoint in Chiang Rai’s Mae Fa Luang district, police said.

Maj-Gen Prakan Cholayuth, commander of the Pha Muang Force, told a press conference on Thursday that soldiers gave chase to a Ford pick-up truck that sped through the checkpoint at the intersection of Ban Bala in tambon Mae Fa Luang when told to stop for a search.

The traffickers, on being chased, abandoned the pick-up truck and fled, leaving behind a large quatity of drugs which police said totalled 2,462,000 speed pills, 95kg of ice or crystal methamphetamine, and 3.4kg of heroin.

On the Monday, Two drug traffickers were killed and 22,200 methamphetamine pills seized late on Sunday night in a clash with a combined force of police and para-military rangers of the Pha Muang Force in Thoeng district of Chiang Rai province, police said

In Lamphun, provincial police arrested Alephe Lokia, a Lisu tribesman, and seized from him 200,000 methamphetamine pills in a sting operation in tambon Huay Ya of Ban Thi district.

Pol Snr Sgt-Maj Sarayuth La-ong was wounded in a brief firefight with two drug suspects.  The other suspect identified as Phusis or Aleh managed to escape.

In Chiang Mai, a drug suspect was killed in a shootout  with Chiang Dao district police after they tried to arrest him in front of a forestry research centre in tambon Ping.

Police found 20,000 speed pills in the body of the dead man, identified later as Jaleh Ja-ue, a Muser tribesman, while two other suspects escaped
