Officials Make Preparations for Thank-you Reception for Tham Luang Cave Rescuers

CHIANG RAI – The Permanent Secretary Office attached to the Prime Minister’s Office has prepared a reception to thank all involved in the rescue operations at Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai, scheduled for 6 September 2018.

The Prime Minister Office’s Permanent Secretary Patcharaporn Intreyonk chaired a meeting on the preparations for the thank-you reception for the rescuers and volunteers involved in the rescue operations at Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai.

The event will be held in Chiang Rai with tents to accommodate some 8,000 people. The interiors of the tents will be decorated to reflect the identity of Thailand in a relaxed atmosphere. Food will be provided from the palace and from restaurants selected by the government, with students dressed as waiters and waitresses in traditional costumes of ethnic groups in the northern region.

The theme of the event will emphasize on the power of unity which, he said, goes beyond any differences in race or nationality, with live music to be performed with songs such as Imagine, We Are the World, and Auld Lang Syne.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha earlier made a request for His Majesty the King to deliver remarks following the successful rescue of the Wild Boar soccer players which will be printed on cards with His Majesty’s cypher. The card will be given to all persons involved in the operation.

The permanent-secretary said the office is now collecting the confirmation from invitees in Thailand and internationally, who will be liaised specially by officials, with transportation and accommodation provided for those who needed. Foreigners will also be assisted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Officials responsible for security will be holding a meeting and rehearsals tomorrow on safety measures. Special areas will also be provided for the general public who wish to come and express their admiration to the rescuers.

Foreign media will also be invited and will be assisted by the Public Relations Department. About 10,000 people are expected to attend the reception, which will be broadcast live by MCOT from 6.00 p.m.
