Chiangrai Times – ChiangRai Royal Thai Police have captured 4 suspected traffickers and seized more than one million methamphetamine pills, or yaba, and 50 kilograms of ya ice, or crystal methamphetamine.

ChiangRai Police General Priewpan Damapong said police surrounded three pick-ups around 11pm that they had followed to a hospital parking lot in Mae Suay district. They found 11 green backpacks and one fertilizer sack loaded with the drugs in one of the vehicles.

The combined street value of the seized yaba and ya ice was more than 300 million baht.

Four men of Hmong Hill Tribesmen identified as Nathapol Laosang, Liseu Yapaengku, Prakong Kiatpraisant, and Thongchai Sethapataraporn were arrested.

General Priewpan Damapong said the four men brought the drugs across the border from Myanmar to Mae Fa Luang district in ChiangRai. The drugs were to be delivered in Chiang Mai and then distributed to other areas of the country.

General Priewpan said Drug Enforcement Officers followed the vehicle, driven by Mr Nathapol, to Mae Suay Hospital, where two other pick-up trucks in the convoy were also seized and the three other suspects arrested. – Anna Wong
