Creative Media Committee Say’s No Movie Deal Signed By Moo Pa Academy

CHIANG RAI – A spokesperson for the Creative Media Committee has clarified that the rights to the story of Moo Pa Academy Youth Football Team, members of which were trapped in a cave for over a week earlier this year, have yet to be sold despite news that a US film company had secured them for a total of 49 million baht.

Phayao Governor Narongsak Osot-tanakorn is scheduled to head a meeting with the Prime Minister after returning from an overseas tour with the 13 members of the Moo Pa Academy Youth Football Team who were rescued from a flooded cave in Chiang Rai.

The team attended the recent Youth Olympics in Argentina and went on to meet the media in New York as part of a thank you tour. They are today scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha at Government House and receive an award from the Asia Society.

Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office and Spokesperson for the Creative Media Committee Lt Gen Weerachon Sukhontapatipak meanwhile has corrected rumors that the rights to the story of the 13 have been sold to US film company Universal Pictures at 3.7 million baht per team member or 49 million baht in total.

He stated that team’s coach, Ekapol Chantawong has confirmed that no deal has yet been signed and that a meeting of his committee will take place tomorrow (October 17) to make a decision on the matter.
