CHIANG RAI – Just days after two 15-year-old boys were arrested in Chiang Rai for smuggling 300,000 speed pills, a 34 year-old man and his 20 year-old girlfriend were nabbed in Mae Chan district on Sunday morning.

Theerapol Donbua, 34, of Chiang Rai, and his girlfriend Wilaiwan Srisuwan, 20, of Chai Nat, were stopped in a six-wheel truck at Kiew Thapyang checkpoint in Mae Chan district at around 5am on Sunday.

A team of police and soldiers found three fertiliser sacks containing 290,000 speed pills and one kg of crystal methamphetamine.

Mr Theerapol confessed he had been hired for 200,000 baht to deliver the drugs to Muang district in this northern province, while Ms Wilaiwan denied any involvement, claiming she was only his companion.

The pair were handed over to Mae Chan police for legal action.
