Chiang Rai Governor Launches Merit Making Course for Visakha Bucha Day
CHIANG RAI – The Governor of Chiang Rai Province, Narongsak Osottanakorn, and the Deputy Lord Abbot of Chiang Rai Buddhist monastery Phra Rattanamunee, have presided over the opening ceremony of a special merit making course.
The Buddhism Promotion Week for Visakha Bucha Day is aimed at promoting the teachings of Lord Buddha for the peace and happiness of people in the society.
Visakha Bucha Day, or Vesak, is internationally recognized as an important day by the United Nations. It is the day of birth, enlightenment and death of Lord Buddha, and is considered the most important Buddhist holiday. The official date of Visakha Bucha this year is on May 29th.
Activities celebrating this holy occasion are taking place across the country by local temples and provincial monasteries. The ceremony in Chiang Rai is observed by Buddhist monks, selected persons from their strict adherence to the five precepts, teachers, and students.
