As Temperatures Drop a Sea of Mist Blankets Chiang Rai

CHIANG RAI – Dense fog covered Chiang Rai’s downtown area on Friday morning in a rare phenomenon as the temperature in the northern province dipped to 10 to 18 degrees Celsius, local residents said.
Fog rarely occurs in the provincial seat and is usually limited to the mountains.

The presence of a thick carpet of fog on the low-lying downtown of Chiang Rai City for the past several mornings and continuing on Friday m has proved a treat.
The large sea of mist could be seen from high viewpoints, such as the one in Ban Pang Khon in Tambon Huay Chomphu in Mueang district. The white fog turned gold with the first sunlight, said residents.
Kitti Thisakul, chairman of the Chiang Rai tourism industry council, said that with the early arrival of winter, the fog could remain for many days and boost tourism in the northern province.
