Career in a Corporation

A career in a Corporation: Modern corporate world is a universe that exists in parallel with the ordinary human world.

From Monday through Friday, many people live by the laws of this universe. For some, working at the company is Groundhog Day. For others, every day is a run in circles. Others treat work like a swamp, and they find joy in life only when they play Blackjack online or hang out with friends. There are also those who like it all: they have already achieved certain successes and feel comfortable.

Just be Yourself

Just be yourself, that’s all. That’s the best way to see if you can work with a corporation. You’ll feel it, just like love. If you don’t feel it, there’s nothing to try: you’ll just get used to it, and there won’t be any feelings. Only without feelings, there is no love, and without love, no children will be born. So it is with you and your corporation: there will probably be no fruits of joint creativity.

Don’t Be Afraid to Take Responsibility.

Often executives scare people by saying, “This will be your responsibility.” But don’t be afraid of that. If you take responsibility, you demonstrate not only your competence but also show confidence that you are doing the right thing. Responsibility is not a horror or a nightmare. There is nothing scary about it.

The fear of taking responsibility has to do with the fear of what will happen if you fail in your assigned responsibilities. But this is the wrong approach. You have to believe in the success of what you are doing. Then the responsibility will stimulate and motivate you.

Try to Think Originally

It is easy to be original. You just have to look at things from a new angle. The conditions in which we work are perceived as something immutable. For example, meetings are always held in special rooms, and presentations on the project are designed on slides. You just have to think about how a change of scenery will affect the business, and original solutions do not take long to come to fruition.

Don’t Be Afraid to Admit Your Failures.

Admitting that you screwed something up is fine. Often people, instead of admitting to failures, try to find a thousand reasons why something did not work or other culprits. Let me tell you from a manager’s perspective: all of these excuses are terrible.

Admitting a mistake demonstrates that you accept the process or project as your responsibility and are willing to lead the task through all the ups and downs. It means that you can be trusted.

Don’t Forget to Quench Your Thirst.

Drink water, tea, coffee, beer, and wine – just drink. Hang out at coffee corners in your office or bars after work.

Socialize with people: there’s nothing wrong with getting up from your desk and doing things where you like better. Sometimes a busy schedule makes it impossible to schedule a meeting with a colleague for several days, yet a five-minute conversation over coffee can solve some issues.

Take a Risk

Risk is a beautiful thing. If you take a risk for a good cause, the risk is doubly beautiful. A well-considered risk for a good cause is what they give bonuses for.
