Chinese and Thai Officials Vowed on Sunday to Facilitate Trade and Economic Ties

Chinese and Thai officials vowed on Sunday to facilitate trade and economic ties as China and its neighbors in Southeast Asia on 20 anniversary of establishment of the dialogue relationship between China and ASEAN, and the first anniversary of the creation of the FTA China-ASEAN.

Guangxi, the only region of China-ASEAN connected by land and sea, take measures to promote all-round trade and investment negotiations with Thailand, an important country in ASEAN, said Xiong Jiajun, deputy director of the Department of Commerce the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

He made the remarks while addressing a seminar sponsored investment by the Board of Investment of Thailand in Nanning, capital of Guangxi, in the context of the Eighth China-ASEAN Expo.

The Board of Investment of Thailand is a government agency under the Ministry of Industry of Thailand. Traditionally, the Thai prime minister is the chairman of the investment agency.

Economic ties between China and Thailand have developed rapidly since Guangxi became the permanent host of China-ASEAN Expo, said Xiong.

The bilateral trade volume between Guangxi and Thailand amounted to $ 290 million in 2010. This represents a growth of 82.6 percent year over year and was 3.54 times the 2006 level, according to Xiong.

In late 2010, Thailand has invested in 119 projects in Guangxi, with a total value of U.S. $ 306 million, becoming the country in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS), with most investments in Guangxi.

The Mekong River runs through China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam in the South China Sea. It plays a crucial role in trade and transport in all GMS countries, namely China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Guangxi will enhance exchanges with ASEAN on investment, trade and industry, creating enormous opportunities for cooperation between China and Thailand, he said.

The Guangxi government will make full use of preferential policies available within the China-ASEAN free trade zone to facilitate trade and investment between China and Thailand in the framework of the EMS.

Guangxi active measures to enhance cooperation in agriculture, tourism and infrastructure. For example, while increasing imports of fruit and rice growing bilateral trade with Thailand.

Moreover, Guangxi will strengthen cooperation in transportation, including railroads and highways Nanning-Hanoi-Vientiane-Bangkok high quality to promote the development of Nanning-Bangkok economic corridor.

Officials of the Board of Investment of Thailand, which has offices in Beijing, China, Guangzhou and Shanghai, echoed Chinese officials call the cement China-Thailand trade and investment.

Bussarakum Sriratana, a division chief of the Board of Investment of Thailand, said Thailand will offer high quality services, including employment, visas and consulting information for investors in China, the No. 2 source of imports from Thailand in 2010.
